Yeah, I know we’ve been focusing on winters a lot because the chilly months are here and your little is the most vulnerable one here. Aarti (my daughter), has already fallen ill in the start with a severe cold & cough and it is getting very difficult to handle the situation. I am sure, you would understand the situation that I am talking about.
In the last blog, we talked specifically about the tips to buy thermals for the munchkins and his one would be more of a general outlook towards the winter wear.
Some of these bits of advice you won’t see in many places but are the personal hit and trial methods that worked really well.
1. Say NO to Cotton
Cotton isn’t the fabric for your little one if you really want to keep the heat in there rather than away from the body. It is quite understood that cotton is soft for the tender skin, but you got to think of something that retains the heat inside and keep your baby warm. Cotton, on the other hand, is available to keep you feeling cooler, which you definitely don’t want. Cashmere, satin, silk, organza and more are some examples.
2. Say YES to layers
A couple of layers of clothes is a good bet for your kid. You can pick 3-4 soft layers of sweater, jacket, and more to cover your child. Even when your girl is wearing something like tutu dresses for girls or your boy is donning a chic shirt or t-shirt, you can always pick the right ones to layer their clothes to keep them warm. When it comes to tutu dress or girls frocks which are flowy and have an open bottom, leggings or stockings would be the ideal way to make them stay warm.
3. Your body is a must-have while sleeping
This is no rocket science that when two sleep together, the level of warmth is higher because of the body heat that they share. Hence, if your baby is sleeping with you, you needn’t add a lot of layers of clothes because she/he is getting enough heat from your body. So, make sure you sleep close to your baby, be there for him/her and impart the heat that keeps him/her warm.
4. Be careful of where you are layering
It is common sense to wrap up your kiddo in multiple layers when you head out to a place, but some parents let the baby be the same when they’ve reached their destination. That is absolutely NOT RIGHT. You should get rid of some layers when you know that the place you are at is warm and your kid can flaunt the fashion dresses.
5. Keep the feet and ears covered
Now, these are two extremely sensitive points where you need to keep a check on. The majority of the times your baby catches a cold when the ears and the feet are bare open. You need to keep them covered if you really want to take care of your child. Tiny booties for the feet as well as hoodies, ear muffs and anything else would be a fashionable and functional option for you.
